The Chaparral Theater

The most happenin' hoedown in town!

Nestled amongst the gentle hills and critter-filled forests of Cottonwood Creek Ranch, The Chaparral Theater is a gigantic stage set inside an old farmyard barn with open sides and rustic wooden decoration.

From songs and dance to spectacular stunts and slippery Winter landscapes, the theatre is the most happening local venue for a good half hour of non-stop entertainment.

Trivia

  • Added in 1995 as part of a major programme to boost attraction capacity within the park, The Chaparral Theater actually began life as The Chaparral Stage, a modest outdoor stage with a tiered stadium of wooden benches, completely exposed to the elements. In 1997 the seating was roofed over, and in 1998 the stage followed suit, to create a unique entertainment venue which is covered from the weather but looked out on three sides to mature pine trees. For the premiere of Frozen Sing-along in 2015, the stage was further enclosed around the back and sides to enhance the effect of stage lighting.
  • This corner of Frontierland, known as Cottonwood Creek Ranch, has seen many plans for more major redevelopment, with the theatre often the subject of rumours it is to be replaced. Plans were on the drawing board in the late 1990s for a rapids ride similar to Grizzly River Run at Disney California Adventure, though it still remains the favourite location should a version of classic Disney attraction Splash Mountain ever arrive at Disneyland Paris. One (currently abandoned) plan for this log flume dark ride would see the current Woody's Roundup Village area completely redeveloped as the ride's signature flume takes the site of Disneyland Railroad Frontierland Depot, which would be moved piece-by-piece slightly further up the line.

Tips

  • Even if the show is about to begin, you might not have missed your chance to get a seat. Cast Members often open up the back doors once the show has begun if there's still space inside, filling up the side tiers of the audience until every seat is taken. Walk down to the theatre entrance as normal and you will be guided to an available space.
  • However — the 1997 addition of a roof above the seating area added two unfortunate "extras" to the theatre, a couple of giant supporting columns which block the view of the stage from some seats in the left and right blocks of the audience. For a completely unobstructed view, arrive at least 25 minutes in advance of popular shows for a seat in the middle block.
